Bookish Space, CCF seems to be very different to Gibbons's other work. I love it but it could almost be by another author.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-17583987911216487742011-12-30T05:59:12.486+11:002011-12-30T05:59:12.486+11:00I love the sound of these short stories. I have Cold Comfort Farm on my shelves and should really take it down one day to read.A Bookish Spacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15352870732457077916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-7205645460462210242011-12-30T00:35:46.751+11:002011-12-30T00:35:46.751+11:00I got this at the dovemeet in London, from Curzon,...I got this at the dovemeet in London, from Curzon, and I'm very excited to read it - especially after your review. I have to be in the right mood for short stories, which I'm not sure I am right now, but the moment I am I shall grab this!StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-49766477951935447392011-12-29T11:13:23.494+11:002011-12-29T11:13:23.494+11:00Yes, I think that's why I enjoy detective fict...Yes, I think that's why I enjoy detective fiction, the plot keeps everything moving along. CCF is one of my favourite books so I was pleased to be able to explore more of Stella Gibbons' work thanks to Vintage.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-23694275273704612242011-12-29T00:23:51.494+11:002011-12-29T00:23:51.494+11:00Will have to get this, have been vaguely meaning t...Will have to get this, have been vaguely meaning to track down since reading Cold Comfort Farm years ago. Such a necessary novel if you love English fiction from the first half of the twentieth century.

The point about the importance of plot reminds me of the sort of detective story popular at that time too. Personally, I do like a story where something actually happens. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.com
