Am also greatly enamoured of Martin Edwards' Lake District series where I'm up to The Arsenic Labyrinth. Have you tried Elly Griffiths' 'Ruth Galloway' series? Only two written so far but both pageturners. Ruth is an archaeologist and a very 'normal' main character. I also second the rec for Louise Penny's Three Pines books. I haven't read any of those. I agree, the setting would make for a lovely TV series. Audrey, I usually start at the beginning too. The only other series I can remember starting part way through was Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone series. I've heard good things about Louise Penny, I must read her one day - the first book in the series, of course!lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-88634148987710419032010-12-07T13:17:58.340+11:002010-12-07T13:17:58.340+11:00No, you're not the last...this is a new one to...No, you're not the last...this is a new one to me! I agree with you, by the way, about becoming invested in the characters...I'm sure it's the main reason I read these series.

It's interesting too about reading them in order. I just 'found' Louise Penny's wonderful series about the village of Three Pines in Canada, and I started with the fourth (fifth?)book, then went back to the first one, and will probably read the latest one next because there was a long queue for it at the library. Then I need to read the second one, because it's set at Christmas... Anyway, in the first one I read, some relationships were well-developed (though you're right...she did give enough information so a newcomer would know what was going on), and it's been kind of interesting to then go back to the first one and see some of the characters meeting each other for the first time. I think I'd still rather read series in order, but this has been fun.Audreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14912114716426828436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-71134776697469815112010-12-07T09:19:21.969+11:002010-12-07T09:19:21.969+11:00I'm hoping that this series is televised - mos...I'm hoping that this series is televised - mostly so I can get nostalgic about the landscape. I didn't much enjoy Raven Black but keep hearing wonderful things about this series so think I will try again.Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.com
