I do love long books that immerse me in a different world & Kristin has been a wonderful reading experience. She wrote another multi-volume historical saga but I don't think Tiina Nunnally has translated it so I'll have to investigate the translation. It seems more important with this work than any other I've read.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-39855081632480553552015-08-13T02:08:00.220+10:002015-08-13T02:08:00.220+10:00I, too, found it strangely un-out-downable, especi...I, too, found it strangely un-out-downable, especially between books one and two. Some years back I had picked up an older translation and I found it fascinating to compare the two versions at various points; I don't think I'd've loved it half as much if that had been my only exposure to Undset's work. I dipped into an older translation & I think I would have found that a very different reading experience but this translation is readable yet not jarring. It feels medieval - hard to explain!lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-27528990807616144732015-07-29T08:05:50.746+10:002015-07-29T08:05:50.746+10:00It's a great read, Diana, I think you'll e...It's a great read, Diana, I think you'll enjoy it.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-45113354099047144202015-07-28T22:32:38.368+10:002015-07-28T22:32:38.368+10:00I first encountered this book when I worked at a b...I first encountered this book when I worked at a bookstore in the 1970s. A coworker raved about it. I didn't read it then and I didn't read it later, after I'd found a used copy somewhere. I thought it was too foreign, both in location and time. But after reading your review, I think I'll have to look for another copy!joan.kylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17015342608992682333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-49380306507986590712015-07-28T18:46:47.574+10:002015-07-28T18:46:47.574+10:00I've meant to read this book for about 40 year...I've meant to read this book for about 40 years! It was my mother-in-law's favorite. Your description spurs me to think that now I really must do it. Thanks!Diana Birchallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18291540900938654707noreply@blogger.com
