In fact there is a regular Aragon day. I'd like to read this.Vintage Readinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05971819409379613967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-13676628686277489382011-02-22T19:03:50.417+11:002011-02-22T19:03:50.417+11:00Joanne, I didn't know about the serialisation ...Joanne, I didn't know about the serialisation but I'm glad it whetted your appetite. Cristina, Abby is well, although we've discovered she has hyperthyroidism, very common in older cats (she's 16). She was on a bland diet for a few days & is on tablets now which she's not enjoying. I crush the tablets into powder and mix it in with her favourite food but she's not thrilled. Unfortunately she will probably have to be on medication permanently so she''ll have to get used to it. I had a busy weekend last week but the coming one is completely free of everything except reading & cooking so I'll try to get a few new photos of the star of the blog.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-68294690506428642772011-02-22T11:10:36.967+11:002011-02-22T11:10:36.967+11:00An excellent review - thank you! I thought this was a really interesting look at all of Catherine's life, not just the last few years when the annulment proceedings were happening. Annie, I'm interested in your comments about the Shakespeare play. He could hardly have presented such a heroic Catherine in Elizabeth's time. I remember a version of Catherine's speech to henry at Blackfriars in the play (although I haven't read it for years). It really was her finest hour & so clever, to appeal to Henry as a man & her husband directly rather than submitting to the court's jurisdiction. Not that it did her any good.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-59975604766861369992011-02-20T11:55:49.038+11:002011-02-20T11:55:49.038+11:00I also love the tudors. I have read The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory which covers the same period and was captivated by the story. During Elizabeth's reign it would hardly have been politic to praise her in any way, but by the time Shakespeare and Fletcher are writing 'Henry VIII' in 1612-13 she has become a woman to admire in many ways and I was at a seminar a couple of months ago where people with the background to know these things were exploring the idea that one of the reasons 'Henry VIII' didn't make it into the First Folio in 1623 was because by then England was very very anti-Spain and it wouldn't have been finically savvy to include a play that showed a Spaniard as a 'good' thing.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16966461711132186974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-70705999276447379582011-02-19T14:53:26.679+11:002011-02-19T14:53:26.679+11:00Thank you for this review of a book new to me.
