I also liked the contrast between the lives of the miners & the family. It was interesting that they were one of the more enlightened mine owners & even sadder to see the decline of the industry mirrored by the decline of the house. Living in the area must have given you added pleasure in reading about an area you know so well.lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-5401490616872071222010-01-20T20:36:19.424+11:002010-01-20T20:36:19.424+11:00I'm glad that you enjoyed this book. I used to pass the 'big house' on the bus on my way to see my Nannan: from the bus you didn't get an impression of just how big the house was. There was a time when you were able to walk in the grounds but that stopped around 30 years ago. It was so interesting for me to read about the coal mining area, something which is not written about very much, except in a negative sort of way. Lots of places I recognised which was lovely.Jennifer Deehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05465209544401844796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-39689056479766466682010-01-19T18:24:41.694+11:002010-01-19T18:24:41.694+11:00Cornflower, keep dropping those hints, it's a ...Cornflower, keep dropping those hints, it's a fascinating book.
