I'm also 2/6 of the way through Gibbon's Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire thanks to David Timson's wonderful narration. I'm also tempted by Miriam Margolyes reading Prime of Miss Jean Brodie which is in our eAudio collection. I read the book years ago but wouldn't MM be great at the Scots accents?lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3020849054403226268.post-1000972521183228422016-09-26T15:53:54.587+10:002016-09-26T15:53:54.587+10:00Also, I own five Jane Austen narrated by Juliet St...Also, I own five Jane Austen narrated by Juliet Stevenson, and I agree she is a brilliant narrator (and just wonderful as Mrs. Elton in Emma as well!) My library has both of these books (in print) so I've added them to the TBR list. And I can't understand why some people think audiobooks are cheating -- I'll never finish my TBR list, so what's wrong with audio if it gives you a chance to experience a book you'd miss otherwise? I know there are several books I'd never have tackled (i.e., Moby-Dick, The Pickwick Papers) if I hadn't had an audio to help me along. You describe it as stunning and having an elegiac quality. That is enough for me. I keep meaning to read more Muriel Spark. She can go on the list too.

I don't think audiobooks are cheating, I just have never used them. Maybe it is time for me to give them a try. I initially thought Eve Webster (who read MS) was reading too fast but I did get used to it - or maybe she slowed down! You've also sent me in search of The Girls, esp. with Ms. Stevenson reading it. (She's one of my favorites, too.)
