Sunday afternoon in the garden

It's been a while since I posted some pictures of the garden. I haven't spent much time in the garden lately. It's been cold & wet for one thing but it's also a bit lonely without Abby here to supervise my very amateur attempts at gardening. It rained all morning yesterday so when the sun finally broke through at about 3 o'clock, I went for a walk to get some air & when I came home, decided to take a few photos of some of the late winter beauties of the garden. You can see my preference for white flowers! Earlicheer daffodils have a lovely creamy colour & the white geranium is always reliable. I don't think I've ever killed a geranium. There used to be a white daphne next to the geranium but it was in one of Abby's favourite spots for digging & it didn't survive her attentions.

Then, there are the single white daffodils & snowdrops. I wanted to take some photos of the pink striped camellia but the rain had ruined all the flowers.

The most exciting thing is that the rose garden is going well. We've had some high winds & quite a lot of rain but the roses are all still standing &, as you can see, one of the Squire roses has started sprouting. I can't wait for the first roses to bloom.

  3. ooh this post has me so excited as on Wednesday we move house and will have our very own garden. I can't wait for it and so look forward to the flowers. Now thinking of having an area of just white flowers...

  4. So far, so good with your Squire rose! I'm looking forward to seeing it in full bloom. And I've become really fond of white flowers these past few years as well!

  5. Lovely photos Lyn, daffs are lovely aren't they. We grow roses (as you might imagine) and, as "The Squire" was my late Dad's nickname for my husband, I think we'll be adding one of those to our collection. :)

  6. The earlicheers are always the first signs of spring although it's probably at least a month away. Congratulations on your new house Joan. I'm not a very good gardener but I do enjoy having flowers. My roses will be pink & red so the white complements them beautifully. Fingers crossed Darlene that I'll have some lovely photos of roses in bloom to post in a few months. Rose, you obviously have no choice but to grow roses! The Squire sounds like a perfect choice for the garden.

  7. Our garden is looking a bit neglected at the moment - a lot of rain recently combined with a lot on at work, and weekends spent babysitting for my son and daughter in law, mean that we have barely been out there and it is looking lush to the point of overgrown! The cats like it but the neighbours will be getting twitchy if we don't do something soon!

  8. Your lovely daffodils and snowdrops startled me until I remembered that you're halfway around the world from me! As I sit here in Philadelphia at 80F at 8:00AM, I feel refreshed by your beautiful spring flowers.

  9. Yes, there's nothing like someone else's garden to make you feel guilty about your own! As long as the cat's happy, Liz, I wouldn't worry about the neighbours. Welcome Joan, I hope autumn is just around the corner for you.
