Commenting

I've decided to remove the comment verification word/number thing from the blog & just see how much spam I get. I've been thinking about it for a while because I often have trouble commenting at other blogs because I just can't make out the letters or numbers I have to type to verify that I'm a real person. I hate to think how many people have been deterred from leaving a comment because of it. I've also turned on the Comment Moderation so your comments won't appear straight away, they'll have to wait until I approve them. Hopefully I'll receive more comments & not much spam - we'll see!

  1. I totally understand why people like to keep the comment verification turned on--I did for a while, too, but I turned mine off as well as it is such a hassle to read those little letters--it always takes me at least two tries to get it right. Spammers are such a nuisance--the seem to come and go, so hopefully they'll leave you alone and let real people comment in peace! :)

    1. I think it's a real problem that the verification words are unreadable! I've been put off commenting elsewhere because I just couldn't work out the words. Hope the spam is non-existent or manageable at least.

  2. I turned it off my blog and got hit with 4 spams in 2 days but blogspot didn't post them up. I know what you mean re: the words. Comment moderation should help you. Good luck. cheers, Pam

    1. Well, it's working alright so far, Pam. I look at the blog stats every day so I shouldn't have any trouble moderating comments etc.

  3. I'm glad you're a real person, Sue! I've had some spam in the past that Blogger has put in the spam folder so I'll just keep my fingers crossed that only real people comment here.

  4. I can never see the word either! I have moderation set on comments after 48 hours, which with Blogger's spam sensors seem to be working well. I hope it does for you as well.

    1. So far, so good, Lisa May! There's been some spam but Blogger has put it in the Spam folder so it's easy to deal with.

  5. I did the same, Lynn. I went off the word thingy and went to comment verification but for whatever reason, it seemed too much like work. So I went back to the word thingy for now. I tried it without either and got hit with tons and tons of spam which was even more annoying.

It's really a shame that we can't blog without being pestered by the scourge of spamming. Jeez.

    1. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, Yvette. I've had some spam but not too much so I'm happy to do without the word verification. Spam is one of the worst things about the internet.
